LIS Students Advocacy Week: Librarians LOUD

From November 6th – 8th, 2012, students in the Department of Library and Information Studies at the University of Buffalo hosted a wonderful 3-day exposition concerning the future of librarianship.

The purpose of Librarians LOUD was to “engage tomorrow’s librarians in the promotion of the profession and to raise awareness of its values by connecting today’s students with one of the future’s most interesting, diverse fields.”

Librarians Association members Nancy Churchill, President Tim Galvin and Communications Officer Beth Lewitzky attended and spoke at two forums held on November 7th. Nancy joined UB Librarian Mike Lavin and LIS Professor Valerie Nesset on an Intellectual Freedom panel and Tim took part in the Future of Librarianship panel with newly minted librarian Becca Bley and LIS students Esther Marie Jackson and Alex Andrasik.

Much thanks to Amanda Lowe, Alex Andrasik and the other student organizers. We look forward to the continuation of Librarians LOUD in years to come!
